Questions and Answers
We are not exactly sure. We stopped counting a couple of years ago, after we had sold half a million units. Yes. All of our products are 100% made in the United States of America. All of our material is 100% American. All of our suppliers sign contracts to certify that we only purchase materials made in the United States of America. So, our products are American made of American made components. We usually ship withing 24 hours and via Priority Mail from the United States Postal Service. This means you should receive your order within three to seven days. If the "plastic" (as you describe them) cutting board is made of a FDA approved for food handling type of plastic, it will be more sanitary than the wood cutting boards. This is because the fibrous nature of the wood traps both food particles and retains bacteria. As you attempt to clean the wood cutting board, moisture causes the wood fiber to swell with the absorption of the water thus trapping bacteria and small food particles. Our acrylic cutting boards are not fibrous; they not absorb moisture and they do not stain. It depends on your kitchen habits. The Black Beauty (12" by 16") is a generous size. For most people this size is adequate, plus it fits into most dishwashers. The Mumbo Jumbo (19" by 20") is for the chef that enjoys the kitchen. If the chef "speed chops", or can slice onions or tomatoes evenly, this is the cutting board for them. It will easily handle nearly every cutting/chopping project. The Super Mumbo Jumbo (19" X 24") is for the chef that might have a meat cleaver in the knife drawer. If the chef buys whole chickens or whole strip steaks, the Super Mumbo Jumbo will be perfect. Due to their large size, the Mumbo Jumbo and the Super Mumbo Jumbo may not fit into a dishwasher. However, they are easily cleaned by hand with hot water and dishwasher soap. They will last because we test them. The actual thickness of the cutting board was determined from real world testing. We actually used a hatchet to test the durability of our product. Even with repeated strikes of considerable force, there was less than .25" penetration! A thicker cutting board is not needed, and becomes cumbersome because of its weight. They will last because they are made in America. All of our products are 100% made in the United States of America. All of our material is 100% domestic. All of our suppliers sign contracts to certify that we only purchase materials made in the United States of America. Our initial test group (employees of a fast food chain), wanted "maximum cutting areas" even to the extent that they wanted to be able to use either side of the cutting board. In order to make the Black Beauty easy to lift from the countertops, the edges are rounded (bull nosed is the machining term). No. All cutting boards are designed to scratch. Otherwise they would prematurely dull your kitchen knives. The material used in our cutting boards was specifically selected for its durability and its forgiving nature with a knife’s cutting edge. A dull knife becomes a dangerous knife! We have a very good relationship with the chemical company that actually manufactures the material for the "white plastic" that you refer to. They continue to tell us that it should not stain, but it does. Is it really dirty? Not really. Allow us to use an example for you to come to your own conclusion. Suppose you have a shirt that suffers a wine stain. You bleach it and wash it, but you are unable to get the stain out. Yes, it is now clean, but stained. It just does not look clean. Our cutting boards are both clean and stain free. We use only the United States Post Office Priority Mail. We do this for two reasons: we believe in the United States of America, and Priority Mail gets special treatment over regular and parcel post mail. The price difference between parcel post and Priority Mail is usually less than 15%; but you receive our products up to times four times faster than parcel post! Our products are of high quality and durable. This translates into a heavier product that is designed to give decades of superior service. Unlike other companies, we make no money on our shipments. Our clear acrylic counter protectors do perform some pf the same functions of traditional cutting boards. There are two important differences: a cutting board can be chopped on while the counter protector should only be used for slicing and cutting, and the counter protector is clear so that the beauty of the kitchen counter can still be viewed. Because it is fabricated from FDA food handling approved material it is less prone to bacteria than a traditional wood cutting board. It is easy to clean with just liquid dish washing soap and warm water. No. It will melt if you take a pot or pan directly from a hot stove or oven and place it on the counter protector. In some cases even a wood cutting board will experience burn marks. A warm pot or pan is OK, but be careful. A good rule of thumb is that if the pot or pan is too hot to touch, then it should not be placed on the clear counter protector. Yes. It is designed to scratch rather than dull your kitchen knives. All cutting boards are designed to scratch, so that the knives stay sharp. A dull knife is a dangerous knife. The lip was designed to keep the clear counter protector in place on the counter. The clear counter protector starts out as a single clear piece that is 3/16" thick by 16" by 16". The edges are machined half round and polished which slightly reduces the blank size before bending the counter protector to create the lip. The lip is approximately 1½". Buy both! They both serve different purposes. Also, if you buy both at the same time, your shipping cost is reduced. Compared to the competition it is, but the weight is just another indication that you are buying a quality product that will last. Both the clear and mirror acrylic placemats start as 12" by 18¼" by 1/8" blanks. After fabrication, their nominal size is 11¾" by 18". All edges are rounded (bull nosed) and polished. Simply because acrylic is shatter resistant. Glass shatters. Also acrylic is lighter than glass. Try to keep the placemats free of small debris. When you go to clean the placemats, lightly brush or thoroughly rinse them before cleaning with warm sudsy (dish washing soap) water. Dry them with a clean soft dishtowel. Avoid sliding plates over the acrylic. Acrylic polish can help with the the removal of fine scratches. It can generally be purchased at a hardware store. Toothpaste, although not as effective as acrylic polish, also does the trick. Place a bit on the tip of a finger and, using a circular motion, go over an area about twice as large as the fine scratch. A back and forth motion will not work as well. Once you are satisfied with the scratch removal, wash with warm sudsy water. Commercial glass cleaning products clean glass, not clear acrylic. These cleaners often contain alcohol or ammonia. Exposure to alcohol and ammonia causes clear acrylic to fog or yellow. A good rule of thumb is to avoid the glass cleaners that are scented (have an aroma). We recommend using dish washing soap to clean acrylic placemats. There are three primary advantages: strength, beauty, and safety. The clear portion (the actual acrylic) is specified as a slightly softer acrylic to lessen the chance of breakage due to brittleness should the acrylic mirror placemat be dropped. The epoxy backing provides additional strength without the brittleness. Our acrylic mirror placemats are actually brighter than glass mirror. They are more reflective, to better bring out the beauty of the surrounding and of the table setting. Unlike some glass mirrors, there is no lead in our acrylic mirror placemats. Our products are enviromentally friendly and safe. |
